COMPONENT MODIFICATION REQUIRED TO THE
PARAMOUNT PL 2100 LEG CURL MACHINE

PL 2100 Leg Curl Machines manufactured during the time period encompassing January 1993 to October 1995 [serial numbers PL-21 9301 001 to PL-21 9510-099] as depicted in the photo below are affected by this notice. The distinguishing feature of this design is the drop down thigh pad. Other PL-2100 Leg Curl designs are not involved in this recall. This posting is to advise you of a problem that, if not corrected, could result in serious injury.  Your immediate attention and action is required.  The machine must be removed from service until this modification is performed.

Improper maintenance could result in the safety stops installed on the cam and the frame of the machine breaking off.  Without these stops, potentially serious injury is possible if a user places a hand on the frame while improperly exiting the machine with the weight stack elevated.  While the user should never get off the machine with the weight stack elevated, doing so with their hand on the frame of the machine could cause the cylindrical counterweight to strike the user’s hand if the stops are not in place, resulting in a crushing injury or entrapment of the hand or fingers. Paramount has received notice of three such incidents.

Paramount has available, at no charge, a modification kit to remedy this problem.  The replacement kit ships with all components and mounting hardware and step-by-step instructions for installation.  The machine must be removed from service until this modification is performed.
